The data

Everything this site runs on is public and free, and so is everything we publish from it. What takes the work is getting it into a state you can use, and that is what is here.

What we hold

869,807installations, joined and cleaned
943tariff rows across 10 eligibility bands
633constituencies
2,645postcode districts

The Ofgem installation report is published as three spreadsheets of about 108MB with the geography, technology, capacity, commissioning date, tariff code and export status of every accredited installation. The tariff table is published separately, as a workbook with a sheet per eligibility band. Neither is usable as published, and joining them correctly is most of the job. Our method sets out exactly how it is done, including the two parsing faults we found on the way.

Free downloads

These are published under the same Open Government Licence as the source, and you may use, republish and build on them. A link back is welcome and not required.

Cuts we do not publish

The published files are aggregates. The underlying join carries a good deal more, and some of it is only useful to people doing a specific job:

Who this tends to be for

Installers and battery firmsterritory sizing, not lead lists Suppliers and licenseesbook composition by area and band Researchers and academicsthe joined series, with method Journalistsa figure checked before you print it

What we will not provide. There is no personal data in the Ofgem register and there is none here. It is anonymised to postcode district, and we will not supply, model or infer anything that identifies a household. If you are looking for a list of people to contact, this is not that and we cannot help.

Asking for a cut

Email editor@ownergy.co.uk and say what you are trying to work out, rather than what fields you want. It is usually a shorter conversation that way, and quite often the answer is already in one of the free files above.

If it is a small amount of work we will do it and publish it for everyone rather than send it privately, because a reference work is worth more than a favour. If it is a substantial piece of processing, or you want it delivered on a schedule as new quarters are published, we charge for that. Say what you need and we will quote.
