Certain renewable energy sources are not eligible under the tariffs
All of the technologies we've listed in this section are eligible for either the Feed-In Tariffs or the Renewable Heat Incentive (see the list on the left to find out more about these eligible renewable energy sources).
The following technologies, however, are not currently allocated tariffs:
Technologies usually used for large scale generation
The government decided that sources which are generally used for centralised electricity generation are supported by the Renewables Obligation and therefore not included within the Tariffs. These include:
- Energy from landfill gas
- Energy from waste
- Energy from biofuels (except for some small-scale heating applications)
Emerging technologies
Technologies which are at an earlier stage of development, at least here in the UK, have also been excluded, including:
- Geothermal energy (except using ground source heat pumps)
- Wave energy
- Tidal energy
